Print Run Update
almost 10 years ago – Sun, Apr 24, 2016 at 02:32:03 PM

Uploaded the books the printer. Waiting for Physical Proofs. Hope to get them by this weekend/Monday. Got the price for the entire run with shipping. Ideally next week the books start printing. All l the bookplates should be signed by everyone, and sent back here by end of next week.  In terms of Hardcover, Im looking for a different printer as the current one does not do hardcover the same size as the trades. It will be more problematic to try and rescale the files vs finding a printer that does Comic Sized Hardcovers.  That should be solved by next week as well.

Weekend Update
almost 10 years ago – Tue, Apr 19, 2016 at 03:35:15 PM

I just had our bookplates printed(as it seemed most preferred that solution) and had Brandon Easton sign them yesterday.  This morning I met with Hannibal Tabu, and had them signed. I then sent them Express Mail to Dennis Calero so he could sign them before he would leave later next week.  Im hoping by the end of next week to get Lyndsay Faye, N.Steven Harris, and Karl Bollers to sign.

The other good news, is that I have made a deal with a comic retailer for a LARGE order of Watson Holmes V1 and V2. They will be my exclusive retailer for the east coast and mail order for the books.  They will be at some major Comic-Cons in the east coast this spring through fall. Anyone who did not order from the kickstarter or our website, will be able to order the books from them. This order helps greatly as it helps me cover the rest of the print run, and gets me a slight discount for volume pricing. We will have more information for the general public once we start shipping the books to our backers.

We also intend to make a few extra books to be available  at the San Diego Comicon and maybe Long Beach Comicon.  We will let you know more closer to the convention.

I have some adjustments to make, and adding new pages for both volumes. I'm expecting early this week to upload the books to the printer. I will make sure to show something when thats done.

Have  a good weekend

Small update -Print Run
almost 10 years ago – Sat, Apr 16, 2016 at 10:22:29 AM

The beginning of the year was very challenging for me.  I currently have been working a freelance(I don't have a "fulltime" job) contract the past few months, and it took a while for my first invoices to get paid. I was  mostly concerned with covering my bills-rent during this juncture.  A small print run might as been a mountain at that point.

Since I've been paid recently, I now at least have enough to cover the  500 or so V2s for the Kickstarters.  I should have enough to cover the other rewards soon. The Kickstarter budget covered 85% or so of the production budget, and I made sure to cover the difference. The Kickstarter didnt have enough to cover a print run, so I was responsible to make that happen.

I was trying to get another publisher to carry our book and cover the print run for stores and the backers. Unfortunately I couldn't come to a deal, and decided to only do a Kickstarter run. Watson and Holmes V2 will not be in many stores, and pretty much a Kickstarter only thing for now.

Since we intend to give you fully signed books by our creative teams, I can do things in different ways. I expect a 2 week turnaround for the books once they are ordered and error-checked. I have to send them to NY first to have them signed by the folks in NY, and then sent back to LA to be signed by the LA team. This is probably the biggest logistical issue to deal with, and will take longer.   I can also print a separate page,  have that signed and shipped by everyone, and inserted in the book. That could take faster than shipping the books twice.  Please let me know what you prefer. Im open to other ideas as well to solve this.

We may have news on Live-Action soon. Maybe by this weekend if paperwork is done. Suffice it to say things take a LONG TIME to get done in Hollywood. We have been going back and forth with folks since November.

I will try and have another update soon.

NYCC Blues
over 10 years ago – Wed, Oct 14, 2015 at 01:11:28 PM

My Letterer and Writer have been  their day jobs the past month working on NYCC debuts for other companies. That has pulled them off Watson and Holmes. This week I should be able to get them to finish this. Talking to another publisher for print run and distribution. They have been getting very good word of mouth lately.

Summer Update Post-SDCC
over 10 years ago – Sat, Aug 08, 2015 at 03:20:58 PM

Good News- We had 2 good talks, one with a good indy publisher, another with a large indy publisher affiliated with a not so indy publisher of classic 90s characters. I'm hoping to get paperwork from the later, that might include live-action news.

Less than Good News-

I've been swamped with late summer commercial work, so its been hard to get hours catching up with everyone on the team. Right now my letterer Wilson Ramos has finished the first 14 pages of the last story, and the co-writer Karl Bollers, is finishing up the last 20 pages of dialogue. My colorist , Jay Ramos(no relation to Wilson) just got married(congrats!) toward the end of last month, and he is on honeymoon till the middle of the month (I got that email on Monday from him). Hopefully if Karl gets the dialogue done this week, it shouldn't take too long for my letterer to finish. All we would wait for is the colorist to get the pages done, and have them swapped with the black and white ones.

Getting things done "In-time" is very tough especially when the  team member  has other freelance or day jobs (I wanted to insure consistency with V1 and keep quality). In the case if one person gets late, it affects everyone else getting their work done, especially when  the next person taking over has a  narrow window of  immediate availability. When EVERYONE gets late, it just cascades down into a lateness spiral.

Getting things done more timely was easier when New Paradigm was a full-time comics company, but now we are operating part-time, and its harder to do that.

I apologize for the long delay and thank you all for your support and patience.
